Leo Club of Georgetown Stabroek’s International Youth Day Celebration

Event: Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World

On August 12, 2023, in honor of International Youth Day, the Leo Club of Georgetown Stabroek extended a warm invitation to Policy Forum Guyana (PFG) to lead an engaging session for its members aged 18 to 30. The event aimed to empower young individuals with the knowledge and competencies needed to champion environmental preservation and ecological harmony. Policy Forum Guyana’s Coordinator, Benita Davis, along with Communications Officer Britney Semple and dedicated volunteer Ayanna, took center stage. Their mission was to educate the attendees through an interactive and informative experience that would equip them with practical tools for fostering sustainability. The session aligned with the day’s theme: “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.”

The event began with an informal dialogue that delved into various aspects of sustainable practices. This laid the foundation for the subsequent activities, which were thoughtfully designed to impart green skills and reinforce sustainable behaviors essential for Guyana’s ecological well-being. The session featured a collection of innovative games conceptualized and enhanced by PFG.
Attendees enthusiastically participated in activities such as “Eco-Snake and Ladder,” the “Sustainable Development Goals Memory Game,” “Earth Helper,” and the “River Guardians Freshwater Board Game.” Each game was carefully crafted to transfer valuable insights and encourage a deeper understanding of environmentally-friendly practices. As the event drew to a close, participants were challenged with a quiz that tested their newfound knowledge. Those who provided correct answers were rewarded with prizes, adding an element of excitement and competition to the educational experience.

In essence, the Leo Club of Georgetown Stabroek’s collaboration with Policy Forum Guyana on International Youth Day fostered a dynamic learning environment. By lending education with interactive games, the event successfully promoted green skills and instilled a commitment to sustainable living among the young members. The ultimate inspiration was to contribute to a future where Guyana’s natural resources are preserved, ensuring a harmonious coexistence between humanity and the environment for generations to come.
